Hi all,

Trying to upgrade HP Pavilion 8570c to XP
from 98. I want to boot to the CD. Ok,
I have done this a hundred times with many machines untill I cam upon a HP Pavilion!! Whats the trick?
The boot order is correct in bios. I'm not getting the message "press any key to boot from CD"? It just shows the blue HP screen and then keeps booting up to 98.

Please help?
Thanks
Gerry

Gerry:

If your BIOS version is older than 1.14, try downloading 1.14 from here:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareDownloadIndex.jhtml?reg=&cc=us&softitem=pv180en&prodId=hppavilion11124&lc=en&plc=&sw_lang=en&pagetype=software
to see if that helps.

Roger

Another option would be to boot to a 98 Startup disk and select CD support. From there, it depends if you have only the upgrade version or the full version. With the full version, I would suggest letting it format the disk, if possible.

I don't want to confuse you or say I don't belive you but in the bios do you have your cd rom as the first boot option?
let me know .
If you don't have the CD rom selected in the bios then your computer will continue to boot from the hard drive.
Please post how it is going.

Yes

I tried it with the CD as the first
and I tried with it as the second boot option. And of course the A: drive first.

thanks
Gerry
