Hello

I m using xp professional, problm is that when i select "shut down", and press 'ok', every thing done/goes properly, but at last on my monitor Windows XP logo screen remains that says "its now safe to turn off your computer", and my machine 'power' light remains on, until unless I have to disconent the power from main power board.
I want to ask that why my machine remains 'on', why machine doesnt off properly. and what should I do, so that when I shutdown my operating system, it will also turn off my computer.

System configuration:
CPU: 800 Mhz
RAM: 256 MB
HDD: 40 GB

Regards,
Sharf

Hi Sharf,

There are various reasons for improper shutdown. I have attached a few links to documents on resolving shut down related issues.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;320008

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315664

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;307274

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;317673

http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

Hope these help.
Ramesh Pakkath

I have a similiar unit that does the same, i think it is related to the chipset configuration, system board that unit has. All units that i have tested that have CPU bellow 500mhz or certain chipsets exhibit the same sintom. Until now i haven't been able to provide a solution to this issue, all driver and windows updates failed. I will try to check the chipsets were these issues occurs to isolate the cause. I will provide these informations has soon has possible.

Pedro
