New advanced forums search available

FYI, a new user interface for searching the forums is now available. The UI provides search options that include filtering on specific forums categories and within specific date ranges. You can also search for keywords contained in question titles or entire message threads, and filter on author names.

A "solutions" filter returns question-answer threads that contain messages that are rated as solutions. You can also use filters to find messages you have posted or those posted by other authors. A nice feature for frequent forums experts is a filter for "unanswered" questions - a way for experts to find members that have yet to be helped.

The search results page is also enhanced, allowing the sorting of results based on subject title, posting date, and forum. You can also select the number of results to be returned, from 25 up to 200.

To access the advanced search, click on the "more options" link in the search area at the top of any forums page.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I believe these enhancements will be quite useful.

We all know that even the largest database in the world is useless without a good search engine.

Hi Dan,

Looks good. A suggestion for the next version - how about a check box for each of the forums you want to search, like when you set up your notifications within your ITRC profile?

Very nice, and hopefully new users will find it and those oft repeated solutions to common problems.

I suspect the new visitors, many of whom have never visited a forum, may well miss that opportunity, however.

Perhaps a highlighted mention of it in the forum guidelines would be a nice enhancement.

Were I King, I would shout it out! Ha.
