hp pavilion xf145 not working

I have a hp Pavilion model xf145 that will not start up. No lights ,no sounds, no nothing. I took it to a local repair shop and they said it could be the mother board and would cost $600.00. It is out of warranty but only has approx 20 hours of usage. Seems odd that the mother board would fail after a short life. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had simular problems and what was the outcome. I am not a computer tech so I am at the mercy of the repair shop.. HELP>>>>Thanks

Hi Jon,

Try these steps to Hard reset the laptop.

1. Remove AC Adapter Connection, Remove the Battery of the computer.

2. Now turn the notebook Upside down and then you can find a small hole where 'RESET' is written next to it.

3. Please use a Paper Clip or a pencil and insert it into the hole and hold it for 30 seconds and then leave the notebook for a minute.

4. Now insert the battery, connect the AC Adapter and switch on the notebook.

Thanks for that info. I actually tried to do those steps but did not seem to help. I also checked the power supply and it is good. Thanks again for your assistance.
