PCL XL error When Printing Outlook 2000 Contacts

Using an HP LaserJet 4050TN with HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL 6 driver.

When trying to print Contacts in Outlook 2000, I receive a printout that reads:

PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: UnsupportedBinding
Operator: 0x0
Position: 0

This PCL XL error only happens when printing contacts. All other Outlook
functions and Office 2000 applications print without problems.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Matthew,

Sorry you're having trouble printing out contacts in Outlook. One thing you
might try is setting the print processor to RAW mode. You can do this by going
into the printer properties, and selecting Print Processor, then change it to
RAW. PCL problems are commonly fixed by changing this setting.

If that doesn't fix your problem, you should make sure you have the latest
drivers for the 4050TN. Another option would be to post a question in the
LaserJet User Community Forum since the error you're receiving is being
generated by the printer driver and not from the Microsoft application. I'll

I had a user with the same issue. After downloading and installing the HP LaserJet 4050 PCL 6 driver version 4.3.2.38 from the HP support site the user was able to print her contacts without the PCL XL error. Please note that this only affected my Windows 98 users and not my Windows NT 4.0 Workstation users. The Windows NT 4.0 Workstation users never got an error. Hope this helps!

Hi Matthew,
I got that error a few times with multiple users and I found that if you install the postscript driver for your printer it seems to work.
