I remember calling HP Support to help me with my computer freezing up on
"Windows is shutting down" and the guy I talked to said is was incompatible
software that caused it. We went through recovery/reformat with the disc that
came with my HP Pavillion 6350 and went through a lot of steps, which fixed the
problem. A about a month ago, my computer repeatedly displayed "Fatal
Exception" when I attempted to perform Scandisc or Defrag my c drive. I tried
to use the recovry/reformat disc by myself and could no longer boot windows
after 2 attempts. I sent my PC to Circuit City for repairs this time.
Now Windows constantly shuts down to the same blue " Fatal Exception" screen
when I try to scandisc...the response from Mr. Crone on how to perform FDISK
does not sound like how I did it before...

I want to know how to perform manual FDISK to erase my hard drive beacuase I
often encounter problems booting up Windows when I install a software that are
incompatible. I did recovery/reformat with the disk that came with my computer
before but I was told by someone that that does not totally erase the HD.
HELP!!!

http://www.hp.com/go/omnibook.
http://www.hp.com/go/omnibook.

50
To reinstall original software files on drive C
Drive C (the hard-disk drive) is the main mass storage device for the
OmniBook. If drive C becomes corrupted for any reason, or if you install a
new hard drive into drive C, you need to reformat the disk and reinstall the
original software programs.
On the other hand, if you accidentally delete or corrupt only individual files
on drive C, you might be able to recover them from your backup disks..Other
applications you've installed and other files you've created remain on
the disk. Many individual system files are also accessible on the Recovery
CD ROM.
The equipment you need are the OmniBook, its ac adapter, a floppy drive,
and a CD-ROM drive (preferably SCSI-type). You also need the Recovery
CD ROM and the Support Utility floppy disk. If you have a docking system,
you can leave the OmniBook docked during most of this procedure.
These steps will delete any software or files you may have installed or
created on your hard disk.
1. Plug in the ac adapter to the OmniBook.
2. Install DOS 6.22 (from back-up installation disks or from purchased
software) onto drive C as follows:
3. Insert MS-DOS disk #1 into the floppy drive. Switch to drive A, then
format drive C by typing FORMAT C: /U. If you cannot format the drive,
type FDISK C: and choose option 1 to prepare the drive for formatting.
Reboot the computer and follow the instructions in the display. (Note: To
restart from the floppy drive, the System Configuration Utility must have
System, Boot Devices set to FDD First.) Install the fourth disk
separately: at the A: prompt, type SETUP C:\DOS. When prompted for
installation choices, choose All Components, and choose the VGA
display driver. Reboot when done.
4. Install Windows for Workgroups (from back-up installation disks or from
purchased software) onto drive C as follows:
Insert disk #1 and type A:SETUP.
Choose the Express Setup.
Select all defaults for this installation. Do not install any printers or
networks. Install them after the rest of this installation is complete.
The installation does not use all of the Windows disks.
5. Turn off the OmniBook. Set up and connect a SCSI-type CD-ROM drive
(HP part number F1196A) to the docking/SCSI port of the OmniBook or
to the SCSI port of the docking system. A direct SCSI connection to the
OmniBook requires an OmniBook-to-SCSI adapter cable, HP part
number F1182A. (Note that you can also use a CD-ROM drive with the
parallel or PC-card ports, if you follow the additional instructions given
in the README file in the root directory on the CD ROM.)
6. Turn on the CD-ROM drive and insert the Recovery CD-ROM ?make
sure you use the correct CD-ROM.
7. Connect the floppy drive to the OmniBook. Insert the Support Utility
floppy disk into the floppy drive.
8. Turn on the OmniBook. Exit Windows, if possible, and restart the
computer from the floppy drive: Press CTRL+ALT+DEL or press the
reset button. (Note: To restart from the floppy drive, the System
Configuration Utility must have System, Boot Devices set to FDD First.)
9. Select the option Install Windows for Workgroups Drivers and HP
Applications Software, which loads the special drivers you need with the
OmniBook. It also loads OmniBook-specific software: the online User?s
