If the battery is broke, does the notebook not turn on even when an external power source is connected?

Sometimes. Are you talking about powering on with the battery in place or removed from the machine?

Do any of the power/battery lights come on? What machine are you using?

The only light that comes on is that the AC is plugged in, no battery light or others. It is an older presario laptop 12XL125.

Hi Schmidt,
Depens on wat you call broke, if the connecter is damaged and causes wrong powerflow it will not start, if the battary is dead, just can not recharge anymore it should start with extarnal power. Most laptops will even power on with the battery removed, wit hthe powercabel connected ofcourse.
