I recently signed up for 'cable' internet service. I receive packets, but my computer will not accept them. My network card is a SMC-1244TX Fast Ethernet 10/100.

The computer will not assign an IP address?

Anyone have a suggestion?
There is a wizard in windows xp that will let you configure your networking and allow for network access.

The windows built in firewall is probably blocking access.

Note, that if your isp assigns IP address automatically, you need to change your settings in control panel to get ip address assignment.

Your ISP should be able to support you through this. I suggest calling them.

SEP
