Maybe your DVD drive is death. It worked before?. Did you replace something on your computer?

Do you see the DVD drive on "My computer"?

If you open your PC, and disconnect and connect disks, maybe you failed to connect the IDE cable or power cable.

Hello,

Try to boot from Win98 boot diskette (it makes with "Add/Remove Programs" applet of Control panel), insert a good data CD into drive and type the next commands in command prompt (all i write below is right for E: CD drive letter, the letter you need to set displays in line like "drive X: = device MSCD001" which displays when computer boots from diskette):

-- start of command list --
E:
dir
-- end of command list --

After typing of every command you must press Enter to execute it.
If you see directories list of your CD-disk on the screen after executing of all the commands, then your hardware seems to work OK, and you need to reinstall IDE drivers of your motherboard.
If error messages like "Drive not ready" or "Invalid drive letter" are displayed, or "Device MSCD001 not found" message displays when booting from diskette, check the setting of the master/slave jumpers on your CD-drive and hard disk drive (not "cable select", if drives are plugged to the same cable, the HDD must be master, CD - slave).

Best regards,
Viktor V.
