Good to hear all is working now....

Rich

Points?

Points are a way of saying thank you to the person that has helped you with your problem.

Only the question author can assign points to a given response. You will see a dropdown menu of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button.

Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time. That way you can assign more than ten points to any one user for their reply.

I've been fighting with this problem a week, found no viruses or bad registry entries so far. I end up uninstalling the keyboard driver and rebooting for a reinstall, or a rollback or a update any one of which will eventually get me rolling again. As for the mouse... I've had to borrow a USB mouse, the PS/2 will not return. I would think the pulgs are bad but it works fine until the subsequent reboot. I'm pasting a copy of my Hijack this Log, it seems similar problems have utilized this as a means to determining the problem, so I will do the same here...

Please help!

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 11:24:10 PM, on 10/24/2006
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011)

Running processes:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\AOLacsd.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NORTON~2\NPROTECT.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NORTON~2\SPEEDD~1\NOPDB.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\MsPMSPSv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmadmin.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\EXSHOW95.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\EXSHOW.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1145820554\ee\AOLHostManager.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1145820554\ee\AOLServiceHost.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.908.5008\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE
C:\Program Files\Accent\WNW\WNW.EXE
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Accent Shared\agtserv.exe
C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Console\NSCSRVCE.EXE
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Hijack This\HijackThis.exe

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.martial-arts-dallas.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://martial-arts-dallas.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer
O2 - BHO: Yahoo!
Hi Al Martin,
Before we jump to the point that this is a Windows problem.

Connect a PS/2 keyaboard and try to access the bios If you can not access the bios with the keyboard this is not a Windows problem, you can also double check this to start your computer with a bootable CD like Windows install CD to see if the keyboard works.

Also try with a second keyboard.

Have a nice day,
HTH, Ronald

Al,

Minor possibility: I hesitate to even mention this, but are you sure someone's not playing a prank? I'm asking for this reason:

This may sound a bit insulting since your knowledge level is obviously way above that of my users (bless their ignorant little hearts), so please forgive me. This has happened at our offices so many times that it's the first thing I ask when they call me to tell me their PS/2 mouse and keyboard aren't working.

When a user in one of our offices has decided to move their PC to a more convenient location at their desk or they've been moved to a different desk, they invariably call me after they've moved their PC and complain that their keyboard and mouse don't work when they turn on their PC (and it makes this funny beeping sound too). What's happened is that since the PS/2 mouse and keyboard plugs will fit in to each other's ports on the PC, they plug them in to the wrong ports. Neither works, of course.

More likely:

(1) How does device manager look?

(2) Run through your BIOS (if you can) and look for anything related to the mouse or keyboard or PS/2 ports.

Pat
TO the doctor/wizards eager to give a helping hand. I apologize for not following through with follow ups regarding the issue at hand, I struggled getting the keyboard just to type, ended up uninstalling driver, running several registry fixes and reloaded a new driver. I don't know how many combinations to this 'lock' I tried but I broke through the proverbial 'vault door' at least for the mean time. I wanted to thank you for those that were quick to come to my aid and will keep this issue on stand by, should the problem arise again soon. Consider this a probationary period to determine if the bugs have been insecticided.

Thank you and keep up the good work

AL

Good to hear all is working now....

Rich

Points?

Points are a way of saying thank you to the person that has helped you with your problem.

Only the question author can assign points to a given response. You will see a dropdown menu of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button.

Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time. That way you can assign more than ten points to any one user for their reply.
