Oh nice, that's convenient. It freezes on the SMART Short Self Test. I burned a diags disc and ran the test suite. Got one error:

Disk 0 Linear Verify FAILED 09/25/2008 07:05

I guess now it's time to call HP.

This morning when I came to work on my computer, it was making a high pitched buzzing noise. I tried to wake it out of sleep mode but it wouldn't so I did a hard shutdown. When it shut down, the buzzing noise, which I believe is the hard drive, faded away as the hard drive slowed down.

After turning the computer back on, there wasn't anymore problems until a couple hours later. Eventually the noise came back. I kept working on it to see what would happen, and eventually it froze up.

I just shut it down again only 10 minutes ago and now the buzzing noise has already came back. It's doing it right now as I type.

I just tried to restart it before it froze again, and it froze while logging off. I waited 10 minutes until I did a hard shut down.

OS: Vista Home Premium, 64-bit, SP1
HP Model: a6500f
