We have a new DL380 with 20GB of RAM. Primary Drive is Mirrored & the Remaining 6 Drives are RAID 5. THe Server is a SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (32 bit). and this morning our SQL Instance failed with the Error:

Server TCP provider has stopped listening on port [ 1433 ] due to a failure. Error: 0x2736, state: 2. The server will automatically attempt to reestablish listening.

I have looked thru the web & microsoft site for this error (how & why it happens) but really didnt turn up anything.

Has anyone encountered this error? What Causes it?

Thanks in advance.

Darren

What SP and CU level are you at?

SQL 2005 without SP or SP1 is very buggy.

With SP2 marginally ok.

With SP2 and Cumulative Update 10 at the latest & greatest.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956854/

For Proliants also go with the latest PSP - 8.11 at time of writing, which includes the latest network drivers.

You may also want to try and disable SNP - at least just to test and see if it makes a difference:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948496

Cheers,
Rune
