error installing 64 bit software on virtual windows server

we are running hp's vm 11.23 on an rx6600 and when trying to install any 64 bit windows application we're getting an error 'the install package doesn't support this processor' ?? The virtual windows server is configure with 2 processors.

HPVMs virtualises the processing resources (CPU/IO/Memory), not the platform architecture - you still can't run x86-64 executables on an Integrity VM windows guest

you probably have media for x86-64 systems and not for ia64 systems... what software are you trying to install?

are you trying to install the generic 64bit windows version of the software or the specific 64bit Itanium version?

we were told by the outfit that installed the vm system that we had to purchase 64bit software for the windows servers.

No, they are not, but they just told you 1/2 of the story.

Yes, you **DO** have to purchase 64-bit software, BUT it HAS to be 64-bit specifically for the ITANIUM CPUs.

I'm pretty sure that Norton AV is not supported on Itanium systems.

I do know that Symatec AV (otherwise known as Endpoint Protection) was supported on v10, but I think they've rolled to v11 of the product... maybe they will still sell you v10 for ia64 systems...

No doubt there are other products for ia64 out there to.
