I often find my computer cpu being occupied 100% by one of the svchost.exe programs. I can stop it by using taskmanager to "end process".
I have read that I should be able to determine what program is driving svchost and thus be able to disable that program.

I have not been able to drill down and fix problem

Get a copy of procexp from microsoft sysinternals. It looks like a more complex task manager, when you hold your mouse over the offending process, you can see what services it is running. You can also right-click and examine the process properties.
Phil
