Upgrade from 9.5.00 to 12.5.00 HP Lefthand P4500G2

Hello.Recently i try to upgrade my HP P4500G2 from version 9.5 to 12.5 using CMC but no luck.

I install all patch, and try to upgrade to 10.5 first and CMC says you can't upgrade to 10.5 you must upgrate to 10.5 and when upgrade to 10.5

O_o

I'm so lost right now

Okay, I got it working - manually updated to 10.5 first using the support mode of the CMC:

mportant note: Support Mode upgrades does not protect the availability of your LUNs in contrast to the default upgrade mode. Be sure to keep enough storage nodes online to retain quorum and prevent impact.

Close the CMC
Navigate to the preferences.txt file.
a. Linux: /home//.storage/preferences.txt
b. Windows 2003: c:\documents and settings\username\.storage_system\preferences.txt
c. Windows 2008: c:\users\username\.storage_system\preferences.txt
Open the preferences.txt file in an editor (notepad)
Add the following lines to the end of the file
CmcSystemPreference.supportMode=true
CmcUpgradePreference.useOldUpgrades=true
CmcUpgradePreference.userUpgrade=true
Save the file
Launch the CMC
Go to the Configuration Summary item in the navigation pane
In the right pane, go to the NEW “Support Upgrades” tab
Note: CMC version 10.x and later the cmc background will be yellow when support mode is set.
Click Browse, go to program files(x86)\hp\p4000\ui\downloads or the location of the p4000 downloads files. Note: Customer may have stored the download files to another directory or share.
Change “files of type:” to all files
Select the desired .patch or .upgrade file, select open
Select the storage node from the list of available nodes
Click the Install button, which will become available once a patch and node are selected
Once the patch/upgrade is installed, Exit the CMC
(This will remove lines added in step 4 and remove the support upgrades tab from the cmc)
Launch the CMC

You installed the patches manually. How do you know which patch to install first and in what sequence to install the patches.

This sounds easy enough and thank you for posting. There are different flavors of .upgrade file ...

SANIQ_*._all.upgrade, SANIQ_*.FOM.upgrade, SANIQ_*.legacy.upgrade

Do you remember which one you picked or do we do all and if so which order.

Use the SANIQ_10.5_all.upgrade file. Once your systems are at 10.5, you can use the CMC without support mode to upgrade to 12.5.

DO NOT UPGRADE P4500 G2 or P4300 G2 to 12.6 in support mode!!! It is not designed for the G2 systems and will give you trouble!

Hello, where can i download the firmware for the console CMC 12.5?and do i have to upgrade version to version or do i can upgrade directly from 10.5 to 12.5 thank you

Upgrading from 10.5 to 12.5 is much simpler than the 9.5 upgrade. Please post a new question in the forum for this topic.

@Stor_Mort, Does this mean for P4500 G2 and P4300 G2 we can only use the upgrade path:

v9.5 to 10.5
v10.5 to 12.5

which can be done safely with no outage or problem during the business hours?
