Additional storage space needed for Remote Snapshots

Does anyone know how much extra storage is needed on both sides (local and remote)

is local a 1 to 1 ratio - or is it just the snapshot storage difference?

How about at remote I am pretty sure that is a 1 to 1, but what in a DR scenario - Can I create a SmartClone of the replicated volume? if so how much additional space does that take.
