email error 500, Unrecognized command

I have a client with two p4500 G2 nodes and two 4730 nodes in two seperate clusters. However, they are both under one management group.

The email configuration for the management group works on the 4730 nodes, but fails with an error 500, unrecognized command on the P4500 G2 nodes when sending a test message to an external email recipient. Email messages make it to internal recipients fine from both the 4730 and p4500 G2 nodes.

All of the nodes are running 11.5.

The SMTP server is a Windows Exchange 2010 server.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

sometimes the email settings don't make it onto the node for whatever reason. I found that if you change the settings to something else and then change them back you it will generally clear the errors and work.
