There was a specific USB key that had an issue (link below), but USB keys are still supported for ESXi.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=1121516&prodTypeId=15351&objectID=c01605187
Hi,

We have ordered the HP DL360 G7 server and want to install VMWare ESXi 4. In our previous server it was only possible to use a USB disk to install ESXi on, but in this server we have also the possibility to use SD.

What is the best choice?

Thanks,
Danny

Hello, it probably doesn't matter. We will do the same on new G7's with internal USB's

Jan

hi,

in my personal opinion it's only about

physical security and medium replacement.

1, physical security : SD CARD

SD card is inside the server instead of USB key

2, Replacement - USB key is more comfortable, because you don't need to go inside the server

its up to you what is the benefit for you.

mikap

I don't have a pointer, but as far as I know, HP has cancelled all support for ESXi on USB due to reliability problems -- so SD is the way.
