Polyserve question.

Hi all,

I am looking at a 4 node polyserve cluster for a customer has that experiences latency when requests are made to it from users.
This is ony doing file sharing in a windows environment and the cluster nodes are windows 2003 Servers.

To me this looks like a networking issue .

To me these nodes should have the 4 nics in each node and 3 etherchannel to the cisco core and one nic dedicated to the admin network.

I have not been able to find any notes in etherchanneling in a polyserve and the only info I can find on each nic is it has to be on sperperate networks unless bonded(which I assume is etherchanneled).

is it possible to etherchannel on a polyserve matrix node.?

What are common reasons for percived latency when requesting files. ??

Hello Steve,

I think you mean a nic teaming when you're talking of "etherchannel" for servers.

Using a nic teaming shouldn't be a problem with polyserve. The basement of polyserve is currently Windows Server 2008 SP2. And Windows doesn't have any problems with nic teamings.

Thanks for teh reply patrick, yes your right I did mean NIC teaming , had my cisco hat on sorry about that.

Do u have any tips on what to look at for percieved latency issues when accessing files.

The Storage thats attached is an eva 8100 and we and hp have done performace reviews and it is not stressed at all so we can rule out the storage and its fibre attached.

Hello Steve,

you can try to capture some traffic with wireshark or something else. Try perfmon and take a look at the network part of the windows performance counters.

if this is 3.6.1 then bring up the performance dashboard and look at the network metrics. You can also see the disk queues for each filesystem.
