Hi,

if you are using the mouse sensors, sometimes it causes problem(intermittently). just use only the mouse pads.
but this is nothing to do with network or tuning mouse drives

our CAD applications runs great on our L1000 server, which supports over 20 CDE sessions. except for the annoying fact that the mouse trails intermittently.
does anyone have a clue

CDE sessions are emulated on PC's with Exceed.

thanks

If you have an omniback GUI running in the background this will cause this to happen.

If you don't have OmniBack, I would say that there is a bug somwhere within Exceed, that when a application has something that continuosly updates in the background, it will make the mouse move.

cheers michael
when the client connects to a dedicated workstation, this lacking behind of the "mouse movement" does not appear to happen. so i would conclude it can't have anything to do with Exceed.
im thinking more along the lines of: improving the graphical ability of the server or altering the flowcontrol of the network interface (full duplex to HD) or tune the server mouse-drivers (if possible)
If there were two VGA cards, then this created a multiscreen arrangement in which the mouse cursor was moving to the other screen. The cursor could not be seen because the other monitor was not connected.

With two VGA monitors connected, the cursor appeared on the other screen.

Since the DISPLAY was hard coded in the application, it was necessary to set the DISPLAY as 0:1 within the application to allow it to start on the second screen.

Regards,
Armin

Hello Fred!

Do you have the same problem if you use the HP-UX workstation you mentioned as display? I also think that the problem is server related because the mouse pointer is the job of the X-server (which in your case is Exceed). The L1000 is only x-client in this case so it usually has nothing to do with it.

Try a linux box or another unix box with a regular X-server and check if you still have the problem.

Regards,

Jochen

jochen it does appear on regular workstations as well.
armin, i understand what your saying. it's not the case.

i've got some add. info.
apparently this mishap occurs
when one of the clients is using a common function in our CADapp: zoomin, panning, streching. this appears to be so intensive, that concurrent session experience this mouse behaviour. terrably annoying and a waste, since i want to get rid of my workstations.

it seems the screen refresh chews either network, cpu, graphic or memory resources from the other clients.

any ideas how to resolve this?
