Mirror your data disks.
3. Use ignite.
4. Backup everything on a regular basis.
5. Backup your data as often as possible - min onece a day.
6.
Basically, the steps are:

1) replace the failed disk

2) recover it's contents

There's some good advice in this thread (in particular, the TKB docs that James points out):

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xbe7a42308663d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

Pete

Hi Ram:

The steps to recovering a failed disk vary depending on whether or not the disk is hot-swappable, mirrored, is a boot disk, etc.

The HP-UX Software Recovery Handbook's chapter on LVM provides an excellent guide to these procedures:

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/iv/docDisplay.do?docId=/DE_SW_UX_swrec_EN_01_E/LVM.pdf

Regards!

...JRF...
