I have a C110 that will not boot. It fails on the LAN Interface card check and NIS subsystems. I tried different network cables but that didn't help. Does that sound like a hardware issue or a configuration issue? I think it's hardware but just wanted to get a second opinion.

Thanks!

Greg,

If this system booted successfully in the past and now, suddenly fails and there haven't been any configuration changes, then I would definitely suspect hardware.

The question is: have there been any config changes?

Pete

Hi Greg,

Sure sounds like HW.

Have you tried another hub/switch port?

Also check the /etc/rc.log for exact error msgs.

You can do a ctrl-backslash during the rc script execution to halt the sequence & use ifconfig, ioscan, lanscan & lanadmin commands to see what the state of the NIC is.

You could also mv the /etc/rc.config/netconf file to take the NIC out of the boot picture.

Rgds,
Jeff

You should be able to boot it with the bypass procedure above.

If there have been changes to netconf, restore and restart.

In the past, typos in netconf produced the exact same problem for me on D class boxes. Just want you to know many of us have done this to ourselves.

P
