Hi,
I am installing the following
QPK1100 B.11.00.58.5 Quality Pack for HP-UX 11.00, September 2002 patch and get the following error.
ERROR: Read from serial depot file failed. No such file or directory
(2).
ERROR: Read from serial depot file failed. No such file or directory
(2).
ERROR: Temporary catalog file
"/var/tmp/BAAa02915/catalog/PHNE_22671/pfiles/INFO" was not
loaded from the tape or could not be read. This probably
indicates the first volume of a multivolume tape set was not
mounted or the tape media is corrupt.
* Retry number 1 of 1 for file information for product
"PHNE_22671,r=1.0".

I copied the deport in /tmp and running the swinstall from there. Please help me to solve this problem

Thanks

Multiple chances for this error. First abort the swinstall process and try these things:
1) Check if file system is full:
# bdf
Free up space if necessary
2) Check if the system has any patch installed in un configure state:
# swlist -l fileset -a state | grep -v \# | grep -v config
If found something then, remove any currrupted patch, re-install any patch if needed, swconfig any installed patch.
3) Redownload the patch bundle and run 'chksum' on it and make sure that you have a good bundle to install.
swverify \*

It will check the status of all software and patches installed with SD-UX.

You will get some warnings that will scare you but you need to read them and think about them before you panic. It does some checksum analysis.

Don't do swinstall or sh commands with UNIX95=1

This can cause false checksum failures with the sh command on HP-UX 11.--

P

Again, it was a typo (sorry). The command is 'cksum' and not chksum. Once after downloading the depot, you can check the validity:
# cksum /tmp/file_name.depot

Hi:

Yes, you can cleanup files in /var/tmp. A more likely way to regain space is to run 'cleanup':

# cleanup -c 1

Whatever you do, do *not* remove files in '/var/adm/sw' (aside from that which 'cleanup' does). To do so may corrupt your IPD and you will not be installing anything.

If you have Online JFS, you can increase the size of '/var' without unmounting it or stopping anything. In the absence of Online JFS, boot *into* single user mode; extend '/var' and either reboot or do 'init 3' to startup again.

Regards!

...JRF...

Hi Sameer,

to clear some space in /var, you may want to look into file/directory like /var/adm/wtmp, /var/spool/mqueue, /var/mail, /var/tmp, and consider of compress and clear the system log and mail log.

thanks,
Gary

Again, couple of things to do:
1) Cleanup space from /var/adm/crash.
2) Run the cleanup command to free space.
3) If you can increase the sapce on /var, then you need to reboot the system. Make sure you have enough space on the VG to extend the LV. Boot in single user mode (hpux -is) and then extend the LV.
