Another very good free source is the HPUX software recovery handbook at http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/iv/enterService.do?NODEID=English_SHW%3A%3ADE_SW_UX_swrec_EN_01_E%2FQ1

They are little 'white papers' on different areas of HPUX systems administration that HP engineers write and post. They are very good papers, and you will find them straightforward and easy to read.

Hope it helps

John

If you decide to buy the HP Certified book or the Poniatowski, and you dont mind buying a used version, check on Half.com.

There is a copy of the HP Certified book selling for $40 about $20 less then the discounted Amazon version.

And Poniatowski's books are 50% off out there.

Double check the revision that they are selling though as well.
Oops. Sorry. You are using the 'other' ITRC. I am in North America. Try searching the ITRC for 'software recovery handbook' or look in the knowledge trees area of the ITRC. It is area. (I see it just below the link for the FAQ's.)

Just a note, HP decided to remove all the white papers out of /usr/share/doc in HPUX 11i. You have to either get them off of HPUX 11.0 machine or search docs.hp.com and cross your fingers. I personally downloaded the files for safekeeping to a local machine...

Hope it helps

John

If you are new to Unix I would recommend
"The Complete Idiot's Guid to Unix" by Wagner
This book is great because it's not dry and technical... it's technical... but very easy to read.

If you're experienced using unix I'd agree with some of the other choices others have mentioned above.
