thanks steve, which timezone do you use for Brasil if you have servers in brasil that is.
We have a timezone of SAT3 setup but think this is incorrect as i can't find it back in /usr/lib/tztab. Have found an entry like BRA3 but am unsure if this is the correct one. Is this tztab file the same on anyserver ww?

I did a quick search and came up with this RCEN (Response Center Engineering Note). I did not see any newer documents, so you will possibly/probably have to change the rules for 2003.

Daylight Saving Time for Brazil DocId: DSTBRAKBRC00005352 Updated: 11/26/02 4:21:00 AM

PROBLEM
How to set the system for automatic daylight saving time in Brazil?

RESOLUTION
In Brazil the start and end date for the daylight saving time are decided again
each year by government decree. Therefore the entry to /usr/lib/tztab needs to
be edited each year.

Here is the entry for 2001:

------------------------------------------------------------
# Brazil Eastern Standard Time, Brazil Eastern Daylight Time
BRA2BDT
59 23 03 11 2002 0 BDT3
59 23 17 2 2002 0 BRA2
------------------------------------------------------------

Afterwards you need to export the variable TZ.
$export TZ=BRA3BDT

Patches:
--------
The start date of the DST is after the end date.
This was not supported by the original algorithm.
To enable it you need to install the following patches (11.0) or the follow ups:
[PHCO_21688/PACHRDME/English] (tztab)
[PHCO_22314/PACHRDME/English] (libC)
[PHCO_22800/PACHRDME/English] (libC compatibility 10.20)

Links:
------
For information about daylight saving time worldwide:
http://timeanddate.com/wordclock/

For special information about Brazil (only in Portuguese):
http://pcdsh01.on.br

ALT KEYWORDS
brasil brazil brasilien summer time tztab
