problem with hp 9000 l-class machine

Hi,

My machine got hung giving the following errors
"system alert system name uninitialised alert level 12 software failure

alert level 3 system block waiting for operator input

system crash occurred dumping
"

After rebooting it shows the following LED status,
run led- flickering
attention led - flickering
fault led - red

Can anyone get back to me asap.

YOu have a alert level 12 .
you can go to the GSP

Type 'CL' and view the console logs.

There you can find the information as what is the real problem.

when you receive a alert level 12 you shouls have received the reason for alert.

What was that message?
If you have not noticied then use 'CL' in GSP to view that

does your system boot up after panic?

The OS paniced which is either caused by a software failure (panic/bluescreen/hpmc) or a hardware failure. The crash dump will tell you exactly whiat caused it.. this will be located in /var/adm/crash/ when the OS comes back up.
Check the /etc/shutdownlog for preliminary identification.

Otherwise the
Command Menu: Main Menu> SER PIM HPMC
will help decode harware failures from the crash tombstone if you can't boot.

Rajesh,

On my L class, the following sequence will get me into the GSP logs, clear the flashing LEDs, thus (hopefully) allowing a successfule reboot:

b - to login into GSP
enter - for the GSP login
enter - for the GSP password
sl - for "show logs"
e - for error
n - for no filters

at this point you can review the error log entries, when done:

q - to quit
co - to return to console mode

we actually had this problem just a few weeks ago. Naturally during patching - so was hard to determine what it was -

Make a long story short - load the support plus cd and run it - our problem came out to be a bad processor.

HTH
