If you try to boot with the new disk array connected and it hangs then you have a hardware problem somewhere. Things to try are;

1. is the scsi cable connected correctly (check for no bent pins)
2. is the scsi connection terminated correctly
3. is the disk array the correct type to connect to the HP controller (SE SCSI, or FWD differential SCSI)
4. try removing the disks from the array, just connect the empty array and see if it boots, its possible a disk is fasulty sending out scsi resets which causes the hang.
Hi,

I have a D class with a disk array with total of 6GB running HPUX 11i

So now I wanted to install Informix on the server,now I need more h/disk.

In our office we have one disk array(don't know the size)

My probem is

I have joined the disk array on the server, when I do search command , it shows the disks but when I bo pri command it doesn't boot up. It says
System Panic : I/O system hang

The next thing I do is I just disconnect the SCSI cable of the new disk array and then the system boots up fine.

So what should I do now ??
Anyway without reinstalling back the OE.

TIA
SRi
Even though you can see the disks at boot time doing a search it doesnt mean theyre are working ok. One could be faulty, constantly powering down or sending out scsi resets which is enough to stop hp-ux booting.

I would remove all the disks, boot the server with just the array connected, then add the disks in one at a time, after each do a full ioscan, make sure you can see it, and check dmesg for any errors, then add the next. Hopefully you will find which one is faulty.
