Memory windows allow you to have several different 'global' shared memory segments. Have a look at the white paper on your server /usr/share/doc/mem_wndws.txt.

Regards,
John

Fellow admins,

Have a hpux server with 6 oracle instances. Having a problems keeping a all of the instances up and running. Oracle's metalink tells me the problem is with the max_mem_window kernel parameter. Ok the current value of this parameter is 0. Based on what I have got going on this server can anyone give me some wisdom as to what the parameter should be. Thankyou for your input.

Sorry to tell, but just checked our server running aprox 12 instances and the param is also zero.

Not a solution, but it is a compare like you asked :(

Regs David

Hi,

That's strange.
If it's zero - you should be ONLY able to use the default window.

David - those 12 have to all be in the default window, I'd think.

So I'd advise that you define a few more (10?) for max_mem_window than you currently need to avoid reboots down the road if it turns up you need 7, 8, etc.

Rgds,
Jeff
