SSH login

I am using ssh from a linux redhat 7.2 to log in to a hp-ux 11 box and I am geting the error:
SSH Version 1.2.33 [i686-unknown-linux], protocol version 1.5.
Standard version. Does not use RSAREF.
wsat1768lx: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config
wsat1768lx: Applying options for *
wsat1768lx: ssh_connect: getuid 508 geteuid 0 anon 0
wsat1768lx: Allocated local port 1023.
wsat1768lx: Connecting to 10.10.10.12 port 22.
wsat1768lx: Connection established.
wsat1768lx: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_3.1p1
wsat1768lx: Waiting for server public key.
Local: Bad packet length 1349676916.
If I try and log in to a second linux box it will work.

Can anybody help with this?

There are reports of this problem for all versions of openssh up to and thru version 3.5p1. See if you can find out what version of openssl was compiled into the openssh running on th HP-UX server. The fix has been to recompile SSH using openssl-0.9.7

The problem seems to happen only if your are using the default encryption cipher protocol. Try using the -c option, and see if you can login.

I checked with swlist and it looks like we are using openssl 0.9.6c. I will see if I can find a depot for the newer version.

Thank you for posting your question to the HP-UX forum.

Your question is somewhat generic, so in adddition to my smart assed remark, a suggestion. Try regenerating your public keys. I'm attaching Chris Vale's memo on the subject, which I've used on Linux and HP-UX.

I tried logining in using the -c option no luck. I also followed Stevens memo. no luck. I can ssh using putty and from other linux machines it is just one linux machine that is giving me this problem.

I got this information using Ethereal after I rolled back to ssh version 3.1 on the linux.

It looks like the HP-UX is using an older version.

could it mean that I need to roll back the linux box to version 1.2.33
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.1p1
SSH-1.0-1.2.33
Protocol major versions differ.

Problem solved,

I upgraded TightVNC on the Linux box and this apparently replaced the ssh file on the linux box with the older version SSH-1.0-1.2.33

I over wrote it with 3.1 it works now.
