Hi everybody,
(HP-UX 11)
When I doing a telnet to a host, I must to enter mi user name. If I write 10 characters, all of them can see it.
How can I restrict the number of characters, for what only appear the first 8 characters, and the rest don??t appear?

Non trusted systems ignore any password characters 8 and ove are ignired.

If the system is working correctly, when prompted for passwords when you type, you shold NOT see any characters on the screen.

The user id should be visible, but characters 8 and beyond will also be ignored.

Hi Steven,
If you type your user name (not your password) in a telnet sesion, you can write many characters and all of them appear. I wish only 8 characters (the 8 first) appear.
Is there a file for edit in the system for to do this?

Like Steven said : on non trusted systems only
8 characters are read at login prompt. So all
others characters appears but are not use.

I think you can't modify that in a conf file.

Hi,

This could well be one of those issues related to having usernames greater than 8 characters. It really isn't a good thing to have and will break many commands.

Have a search through the forums and you'll find many threads related to the perils of this.
