machine replication / rdist

Hello,
I have two identical machines (same model, same hardware, HP-UX 11). These machines are going to perform exactly the same function, thus I need the exact software configuration, users, etc. on both machines. I already configured one machine, and need now to install/configure the second (exactly as the first one). Is there a safe way of replicating or transferring everything (software, system configuration, etc) from the first machine to the second? I want to avoid going again through the whole installation/configuration lengthy process. I'm aware of tools like rdist, but I'm not sure if this would be safe to copy or replicate system directories (i.e. /etc, /usr, /var). The only difference between the machines would be the hostname and the IP address (obviously!).

The tool you want is IgniteUX. This is free and available on the application disks.

Install the product on your built system. (If not already there).
Create a golden image of the system.
Modify networking information as desired.
Either boot the new system from the Ignite image over the network or create a bootable tape with your golden image.
Done.

Get Ignite/UX from your application cd's or via http://www.software.hp.com
Use the facilities supplied to make an image and Ignite the 2nd system from teh tape you create.
It comes with man pages by the way.

Hi:

I agree with Alan & Melvyn. Ignite is the choice. It does not require a reboot to install it. You can download it quickly and start exploring immediately.

Do a search within this formum for "Ignite" and you will be well rewarded with many peoples experiences and expertise.

When you get Ignite/UX take a look
to the make_recovery command.
Is specially useful to do what you
want.
