Recompile PHP

Hello,

HP-UX 11.0
Apache 1.3.14
PHP 4.0.4pl1
Informix IDS 9.2

I have Apache and PHP "working" but need to add support for Informix in php. I see many references to running "configure" on php but cannot locate it. I have a /opt/apache/apache1.3.14/conifuge but the often mentioned /opt/apache/php/configure does not exist on my system. Some suggest that apache and/or php need to be rebuilt some don't. Can anyone advise me?

Hi,
First to compile PHP, you need the sources.
You can donwload it from
http://www.php.net (the latest version should be better as there's some bugs corrected for compilation on HP-UX.

You also need the sources for Apache.
http://www.apache.org
get the latest 1.3.... version (don't try the 2. it's more complicated).

You also need Informix libraries developpment (which should be install if you have an informix database).

The first thing to do is to follow instruction given in the INSTALL file from the php sources. Follow the static version, it's easier to install.

To compile with informix, in the ./configure script of php don't forget :
--with-informix[=DIR] (check it with the --help).

If you have any troubles in those steps or need more explanation, add a comment to this thread, i will add email notification.

I did several php config on HP-UX, but never with informix. I think it should be different from other databases..

Thanks for the reply. Um, actually I'm not looking to *INSTALL* Apache and PHP. I'm trying to assertain whether or not there is a way to recompile PHP so that I can ADD Informix support.
I already have Apache and PHP working but the problem is that this is a production box and I don't want to have to rebuild everything unless I have to.
Also, I cannot find the PHP "configure" file. I simply does not exist on this machine. I find that a bit odd considering I set it up.

Can somebody tell me if *adding* support for Informix is possible without reconfiguing and rebuilding apache and/or php?

I don't think it's possible to add informix without compiling php at least.
You can do it without compiling APache, but you need to compile php.
