I plan to install patches ( > 100) from CDROM, and it worked fine before. I wonder what happens if CDROM drive fails during the load?
Is it actually safer to copy the patch depot to disk and install from it?

Thanks!

Hi:

Installing from the CDROM is quite safe. The actual installation phase will not occur until the software is actually copied to the host server.

Regards!

...JRF...

Hello!

It's good way and safe to install patches from
cdrom.
The only thing is that install from disk is
in most cases faster than from cdrom.

Caesar

It doesn't matter.

There is a performance gain(slight) by installing off of disk. I don't do it for safety.

I've gotten lazy about ordering the CD's for the patch sets. When I need the quality pack, I just download it.

Isn't the Internet slick that way?

When our net connection is down, I use the CD's, which is why I'd better move my mouse and get the March CD's in house.

Regards,

SEP

The nice thing about disk is, you can put your patches in a software depot - then, you can install patches on all your servers from the depot - instead of having to mount/nfs export your cdrom...

Rgds...Geoff
