In my experience, we have not 'fixed' the apps if the server was in production. We just saved the documentation for disaster recovery plans. Once, we had to reload from CD and used the codewords without issue.

As long as you have your licensing paperwork, I do not see the need to 'fix' anything.

Hope this helps!

We're in the process of rapidly building systems that required a ton of add-ons that require licenses (Codewords?). In the process, we were given by an HP Support Representative a 4 CD Set for 11i (Mar. 2003) that supposedly are "cordwordless" -- I can install with no problems .. MirrorDisk/UX, Online JFS, GlancePlus, etc... The CD Part NUmber is: 24998-12895. Does this mean that we can install and normally run the aps on these CD set normally but we still need to license it? How do we now "update" these "codewordless apps" once we have the proper Codewords?

Many Thanks!
Hi,
the official answer is that you must buy all the licenses for the product you installed.

After that, you will receive a set of codewords to unblock the product in the normally shipped CDs, but you will have no need to update them.

Keep in mind that, if you don't buy the licenses, you may incurr in fiscal problem as well as in lack of support, since you don't deserve it.

And publishing this here may not prove to have been a good idea :)

As far as i know....

Massimo
If you have license of a software but lost the codeword, you may obtain the codeword from HP by using your system handler, just directly contact hp support hotline or get it online (http://licensing.hp.com/site=ITRC?LANGUAGE_OPTION=english)

I agree with the sentiment that you should always have the codewords.

We had a failure on a server that an HP Engineer "helped us out with" on initial build by using his un-codeworded CDs. When the failure occurred, we found out the codewords we had did not work due to an administrative hiccup.

Since then, all engineers CDs have been banned from the data centre; if we don't have the media and codewords, we don't install it!

Share and Enjoy!
Firstly, your HP person should not have handed you these cd's, as you say they are unprotected, and are meant for HP use only.
Now you have installed the software, you should still apply for and install licenses, as due to future updates, the software MAY look for these.
I would have thought you would have obtained the correct software and licenses, and then used Ignoite to create a Golden Image to install with.
