      <description>&lt;BR /&gt;Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt; logon as root then,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt; #  passwd user&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can then change the password. I don't think it is good to su from a user to root to change the password....&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Make sure you're logged in as root when you try to change their password.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also, make sure /etc/passwd is set with 444 permissions.  (not likely the problem though).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Jim&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Looks more like some hanky panky with some binary permissions. Have a look at binary permissions on things in /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin /etc</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Look at the permissions on the executable /usr/bin/login.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It should be owned by user "root" and group "bin" with the permissions -r-sr-xr-x.&lt;BR /&gt;(chmod 4555).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;-Sri</description>

      <description>Hi,alex&lt;BR /&gt;Please make sure which "passwd" you execute!&lt;BR /&gt;#which passwd&lt;BR /&gt;Then make sure the command "passwd" has the permission -r-sr-xr-x. &lt;BR /&gt;[Key]"-s" by means of "set-owner-id" on file execution permission.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Good luck!&lt;BR /&gt;-ux</description>
