hpux C360 cdrom install boot booting hangs, no messages

Please, help on below issue:

After starting boot process from CD it hangs for 10+ hours, no extra messages. Is it hardware problem, OS problem, CD media issue?

Please, advise!

Have a list of disks handy.

Boot the box.

Interupt at the 10 second prompt

sea

Does a device show up thats not a disk? Is it randome, not sequential?

Are there lights and power on the CD?

Consider replacing the cable?

Did it ever work? Is the SCSI ID in conflict with some other device?

Lots of possible issues here.

First, I will not wait for 10+ hrs to see if there is an issue. Normally it should go through very easily. Check the following:

1) CDROM media
2) CD Drive
3) SCSI devices, connections and termination.
4) Boot disk
5) Console connection

Ive seen systems hang at that point

even when booting from disk.

Re-seatting the memory solved the hang.

Just another idea.

Paul is right, I would also reseat Ethernet cards and Fibre channel cards, and mux etc...

Anything that goes into the Bus is suspect.

Hi Ron,

Whenever I'm going to load a new 11i image on older HW, I always insure that the firmware on that box is completely up to date.
For instance on the current C360 firmware info page read the following fix description:

- reset PCI LAN cards to prevent hangs and HPMC's during reboot and HPUX shutdowns

So, check your firmware level - current for this system is v1.5 - here's the link to it:

You don't have to load this as a patch - you can create a bootable tape to get it on. Else you'd have to load an older 11.0 image to get this patch loaded & then attempt the 11i cold install.

2 things to do:
first check the disk on other station if it's
work there.
second try other disk to run on C360 and see
if you have problems.
From that you will understand where is the problem.

I agree with Jeff about firmware. In addition, are you trying to load 64-bit OS kernel or 32-bit?
