When the system transitions to run level 2 on bootup, I receive an error message at the console stating stty :: not a typewriter. The server hangs & can only continue w/ a <CTRL> <SHIFT> <PIPE>. This happened on our 1st reboot (3 mos. later) after we upgraded to 11.0 from 10.20.

The inittab has not changed. The /sbin/rc & rc.utils have not changed. Booted in single user mode & ran each script in rc2.d separately & did not produce the error.
rc.log & dmesg tells us nothing. The error appears after I type in "init 2".</PIPE></SHIFT></CTRL>

Hi:

Check the contents of /sbin/rc2.d/ again. It sure sounds like someone has added a script there that is attempting to read stdin.

...JRF...

problem is not with any of the scripts in rc2.d it has something to do with switching from init 1 to init 2 before the scripts start!
