If they are on the same contract and are going to be running the same exact software then you can have the HP response generate a set of codewords that will unlock the software for all 60 A class servers. In which case then you just need to copy /var/adm/sw/.codewords to all 60 A class servers and it will work fine. HP software that is unlocked via codeword is not tied to the NIC. However if you are using software that requires a license manager then it might be tied the NIC in each individual system.

I have to clone 60 AClass servers.
What is the best way to deal with the codeword issue?
My assumption is that the codeword(s) on the machine being cloned from will not work on the new machine(s).
There has to be an easy way to do this...
Thanks
Stacey

Hi,
in this thread all the answer you wants !

easy way: look in /var/adm/sw/.codewords

Massimo

Your assumption is wrong.

The codewords will work.

You are still obligated to be properly licensed, but I have installed Mirror/UX, glance and many other tools requiring code words on a Golden Image server. I then made the golden image and distributed.

I was able to use mirror/ux in an Ignite post configuration script.

SEP

We do indeed have licenses for all 60 boxes, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to install new codewords on every single one.
Thanks-
Stacey

This will work for almost all products, but I could not get it to work with OnlineJFS, each machine required its own key.

It depends on the installed software.

Most software come on the standard application CDs and use codewords. These will work fine if you copy the /var/adm/sw/.codewords to the new machine.

Other software, like OVO, the licenses are based on the NIC, IP address, and/or Hostname. These products, you would have to install a new license key.

There are some products, like Glance, Measureware and the ITO agent, that, while they don't require a new license key, do not work when copied/restored onto a new system. These products need to be installed/reinstalled. This group of products is best left out of the backup used to clone the new systems.

HTH
Marty
