hello everybody.
i have HP-UX 11.0 system running and some specialized additional software installed on my workstation. now, i would like to create something what is called "golden image" (that is how they call it on HP administration course) - that means a complete image of the system + data + everything what is stored on the hard drive at the certain moment. having created such image on the tape, i could recover the system (for example in case of a hard drive breakdown) any time by transferring the image from tape device into the hard drive.
thus such image is something more than a simple backup, since it contains a copy of the system already installed.
could you please tell me how to do this?
This ignite-ux used for recovery process.

Download latest ignite software from hp. (it is free)

Use make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery commands to prepare the ignite recovery images.

if your application data and some software are on vg00,you can use make_recovery! otherwise, you need backup data by fbackup or tar.

Hello Maciej,

you are right if you say:
"thus such image is something more than a simple backup, since it contains a copy of the system already installed."

Ignite-UX is designed to do a backup of your "system" to bring it up again in case of a complete brak down. Or to clone a lot of similar systems in a very fast and easy way.

Ignite-UX is not designed to save your Application Data. But you can do this if you have a small system with static data on it.

Go to this site to get the newest software for HP-UX 11.00 --> http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=IGNITEUXB

If you want to know everything about ignite how you do a golden image and how to recover your system, then read my attached document.

Also search here in the ignite-ux section in this forum. You will find a lot of hints and problems from users, who had the same problem as you before.

HTH
Roland

you can either use ignite or make_tape_recovery

make_tape_recovery -Av

that should backup the entire vg00 onto tape and if you need to restore just boot up and you can reinstall HP-UX and all your data will be there
