I've never really had much joy with Web JetAdmin, what I tend to do is reset the printer then let it pick up an IP with DHCP, get a test print then telnet to that IP and configure from there. Or set the IP from the menu on the printer.

I have the luxury of being able to walk up to most of our printers though, this may well not work for you.

I can discover my printer using the hardware address, but an unable to configure any of the IP settings. The message Device Communication Error comes up.

Tried to reset the printer, no change. It's current IP address is 192.0.0.193, I need to set it to 172.17.2.9 or similar.

Thanks

David Walker

David,

There are known connectivity/security vunerabilities with certain versions of Web Jetadmin.

Typical example :-

http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/bulletins/k-055.shtml

What version of Web jetadmin are you using ?

You may wish to install/upgrade to the latest version if not already done so. The url for the latest product is :-

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=13039&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=27905

Keith
Further troubleshooting:

The setup program found on the installation CD will allow me to change some of these settings outside of Web Jetadmin.

The printers in questions are both networked printers, not attached to any local machine.

I am using the latest v7.2 of WebJet Admin.

After configuring, using the process above, I no longer have Device Communication Error, yet I am not able to make configuration changes using Web Jetadmin (such as renaming the printer).

Bottom line, I do not have complete control over these devices using either Web Jetadmin or the setup program on installation CD.

David,

Other things to check are :-

1) In the WebJetadmin product under navigation
check the general settings for
your type of connection ie http smtp.

2) You want to check the settings underneath
these sections to ensure you are not
denied certain access for a defined ip
address.

Keith
