The terminal setting is almost surely your problem. The terminal is sending a signla that the installation program is probably interpreting as a CR thus sending you to recovery menu.

I have always had better luck installing from regular HP terminal connected directly to the machine.

Hello,

I am having trouble installing HPUX 11.0 on a D220 machine. From PDC I boot from the CD. The system is supposed to display a screen showing server h/w summary with choices for installing or recovering the OS but it does not stop there instead it continues and goes to the recovery menu. I tried this several times and every time I had this problem.

I am using Windows 2000 hyper terminal set to VT100, 9600/0/1/None.....

Please help..............

I used exactly the same setup to install the OS on other servers multiple times. Same CD, same terminal setup, same PC....I installed on one other server just yesterday with the same setttings and I all went fine. But this one I don't understand. I don't have a console right now...

Try changing your TERM type to one of the following:

export TERM=hp

export TERM=70096

Also, please post the exact name and product number of the cd.

Also, could you recycle the power and note any FLT messages on the LED? For example, FLT B#00.

This is an install best done from a console.

The only way the Ignite Interface will work right is if the TERM type is hp.

SEP

This is also the perfect time to make sure that you have the latest firmware installed as well.

Hi

I might be going mad... but my experience of Ignite is the you HAVE TO HAVE terminal EMULATING vt100 or em100 (ctrl+Scroll-Lock). ALSO there is no shell, so things like "export TERM=xyz" is not possible, you are in the PDC/ISL "shell" & then the Ignite "recovery shell", none of which do you get the chance to set TERM parameter.....

On a different tack...
how are you booting the system?
1a - booot <CD path="">
1b - reply N to interacting with ISL
OR
2a - boot <CD path="">
2b - reply y to interacting with ISL
2c - hpux :INSTALL

I generally have more success with the second method as I've seen the first fail for various reasons.

Regards

Tim</CD></CD>
