My problem is some thing different.... when i click on the calender it says rpc.cmsd is not running for the user@hostname. First i thought it might be the problem with the service but it is proper in inetd.conf. then i checked the host resolution, it is also fine. It is not happening only on one machine it is happening on set of machines. None of the nis users are able to edit it, but root can do. it says unable to do chown on the user file for the user XXX and group XXX... any help

Hello

HPUX support calendar service. When you execute "man cal", you can find that.

rpc.cmsd is handled by inetd.conf. You can find that "vi /etc/inetd.conf" and "rpcinfo -p"
Just recheck the last 4 lines in your /etc/inetd.conf file to see if the line (rpc dgram udp .......rpc.cmsd) is uncommented. Also check /var/adm/inetd.sec to see if it is allowed. If you make any modifications, run inetd -c to read the configuration file.
