Hmmm.....The on board 10 Mb should work. If the 100Mb card is EISA, then it won't work as 64bit does not support EISA.

Does ioscan not show the built-in lan at all?

# ioscan -fnC lan

Just installed (cold) 11i/64 on D370 and updated with HWE and GOLD.

Installed all *Ether* and 100Base* but the system still cannot find any LAN hardware. Both lanscan and ioscan stay silent.

This means that neither the 100base card nor the on-board 10base are found.

The sooner you help me the sooner I can put 11i objects on https://www.beepz.com/personal/merijn/ or http://www.cmve.net/~merijn/ :)

FWIW I'm leaving for home now, so answers can only be evaluated after the weekend (and points will be awarded according to the rulez)

BTW I realy don't wanna go back to 11i/32 because that would defeat the whole purpose of this operation. I know that X.25 does not work on 64bit OS on the D-series, but I can't imagine that the same holds for the network interfaces.

Enjoy, have FUN! H.Merijn

That box is certified for 64 bit I think.

Are you telling us it recognizes the cards 32 bit and not 64?

No lights anything like that?
Hmm. Weve got 11i/32bit working on a few d-class boxes without a problem. All are only using the built-in 10Mb lan. It uses driver lan2 - all I can think of is it in your kernel ?
1) If you are talking about EISA cards, it won't work on 64 bit OS.

2) Interrupt boot process and see if you can find your LAN devices from there. Check all information about LAN devices are correct.

3) Check if the LAN cards are connected to proper cables and switches/hubs

4) Install all latest patches.

5) Check error messages on rc.log (will give errors while configuring lan devices during boot), syslog.log and swagent.log (you could see if OS install had any failures.

6) Make sure that you had no EISA cards on the system when you did OS installation.

There is an EISA MUX in the system. Will that be a problem? No problem to take it out.

As I said. ioscan does not show *any* lan. Will have to try the -H way Monday.

And no, the on-board does not show up anywhere. I think I was clear in the first place. I have no idea what the 100 card is for type/bus. Will have to take that out too.

Once I take all the eisa cards out, will I have to re-install 11i? Or can I continue from here on somehow. I *did* already install all available patches up to and including June 2003, which is IMHO pretty recent :)

Enjoy, have FUN! H.Merijn

Merijn,

Yes you were clear in your post.

The EISA Mux shouldn't cause a problem for anything else. It just won't work itself.

Have you tried interrupting the boot and doing an 'SEA' to see what devices are found? I would be interested to see if the LAN is found at that point.

It is starting to sound like your on-board may be bad and your 100Mb may be an EISA.

For the last question: Like I said above, interrupt boot process and do "search" command. It should detect your LAN cards or else I would call the hardware support. Also check Information menu there or run Offline/Online diag to check hardware.

I THINK I may know why you don't at least see the built-in LAN port. On the D (and R) boxes, you can disable the built-in LAN port from the firmware menu. Interrupt the boot process and from the MAin menu, goto to COnfig and see it LAN
is ON or OFF.

Your D-box could have a variety of network cards: both HSC (which will work in 64-bit land) and EISA (which will not).

HSC:
J3515A - 1-port 100BaseT w additional 10MB/s AUI port
J3516A - 2-port 100Base-T

EISA:
A3568A - 100BaseT port

My general rule is to yank all EISA cards before OS install -- they're useless anyway.

I can't remember off the top of my head how 11.11 distributes network software. In earlier versions, they had versions that were specific to the D (and R) boxes but versions for other boxes would install but not work so check to make sure that the Network software exactly matches your box. You may need to look on the Application CD's to install the Network drivers before installing the patchsets.

I would also update to the latest firmware (42.11); I have a D380/2 box running 11.11 64-bit and it does use the J3516A 100-BaseT card as well as the built-in LAN.
