Hello all,
is there any special configuration required in order for the CDE to be enabled on HP-UX 11.11? I want to log on remotely into my RP7410 terminal. I can telnet into it easily, but I can't use a graphical login.

Thanks
Bona

Not really .... as long as dtlogin is running on the host it should handle all xdmcp requests. But
to handle X you'll need either the appropriate h/w ie an xterminal or something in s/w such as reflectionsX or vnc.

Other than that bear in mind xdmcp does not broadcast outside the local subnet by default.

Perhaps if the above don't help you could fill in the gaps or any errors seen .

I am using (trying to use) reflectionX. I have a tru64unix box too, and I can get into that one with little or no problem. And dtlogin does seem to be running. First time I got in, it flashed an error and logged out. Right now, when I try it, it just hangs. I have set it up in pretty much the same way. I do get a login screen, but it doesn't login through

OK what was the error and/or contents of $HOME/.dt/error.log & start.log.

Are you 110 % sure hostname resolution is working properly between the pc and hpux server ?

Also check in RX's log files under RX's Tools section.

Is root user affected ?

try a dr_dt and examine the output .....

this smells of tooltalk which hints as hostname resolution problems .....

RX's error numbers can be translated via Help -> Troubleshooting -> error codes.

Since I presume this is the first time this has been setup this maybe down to fonts but before you setup xfs(1) and configure RX to use the fontservers address *tcp/<IP_ADDRESS>:7000) can I ask a few more questions.

Is the PC and hpux system on the same subnet ?
Are they using DNS or other for hostname resolution ?
When you start RX and say perform an xdmcp broadcast is the hpux system listed in the chooser list ? If yes, when you select it what appears ... CDE's login screen ? If yes what happens when you attempt to enter a username and password (what do you see) and does a failsafe session work ? (see login screen -> Options).</IP_ADDRESS>
