We have a telnet problem with one of our servers. We can telnet into other servers from the offending party, but when we try to telnet into it from another machine we get the following message:

# telnet server
Trying...
Connected to server.ie.bannana.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
telnetd: Telnet device drivers missing: Resource temporarily unavailable
Local flow control off
Connection closed by foreign host.

I've checked the /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf for anything strange but they seem OK

Anyone got any ideas?
Nick:

Try this (from document #A5924978):

1. Login as 'root'.
2. cd /dev
3. insf -e

This procedure rebuilds the device files, based on the running system kernel. The problem occurred because there was a mis-match of the driver numbers for the telnet subsystem.

...JRF...
