Then think of rsync,
it is the free-ware version of rdist (hpux proprietary) and it has the same functions, like incremental copying, compression and so on.

Massimo
rcp should work, since it is unix standard.

If you need performance, you can use rsync.

For hpux get it here:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/

For Sun i do not know a valid depot download, but you have the source in hpux and you can compile it on the two unix :)

Massimo

I also recommend rsync. Very fast and reliable.

Hi Massimo,

thanks for your answer!
rcp works, but I need something that I can use in a cron-job and that copies only the data that is new or has changed and not all.

Gisela

The problem with Berkkey based protocols is security.

I'd recommend a different, though more difficult approach.

Install this on the HP box:
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=T1471AA

Intsll this on the Sun box: It will require a compile. Sun might have a "depot" version, I don't know how they distribute software.

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Networking/Admin/openssh-3.6.1p1/

You may have to get a version for sun from:
http://www.openssh.org

Then follow the doc I've attached to exchange public keys. Again, I'm weak on the sun side, but Unix is unix.

The doc will enable you to do public key secure passwordless file trasnfer via scp, sftp.

SEP
