An HP-UX 11.11 box is sending out mail messages with the following text every 2 days.

>------------ Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ------------<

Notification Time: Tue Sep 2 20:32:14 2003

bigtree1 sent Event Monitor Restart information:

Title: lpmc_em
Command: /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/lpmc_em
Vendor: Hewlett-Packard Company
Version: B.01.00
Monitor PID: 18463

Resources currently monitored:
/system/events/cpu/lpmc/cache_errors

>---------- End Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ----------<

This is like no other EMS mail message I have received before.
If it doesn't say ERROR or SERIOUS, its usually just informational.

I would look at the file:

/system/events/cpu/lpmc/cache_errors

and see if there is anything in there.

Then make sure all cpu's are functioning with top or glance or gsp and then I would move on.

SEP

Hi,

Looks like you have installed EMS but haven't configured it completely. Use the command "/etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig" command. It's menu driven, so it's easy to verify the configuration of this particular event.

I suggest you enable other events too. It can be very useful and can assist you with proactive maintenance.

-Sri

If this is an informational message, what information is it telling me, besides the fact that EMS is monitoring the cache. (I really don't care to see a message every couple of days from EMS telling me what it is monitoring.)

There is no /system/events directory/cpu/lpmc directory. I thought that this was an EMS convention for specifying resources:

Resources currently monitored:
/system/events/cpu/lpmc/cache_errors

This message indicates that the lpmc_em monitor has been restarted automatically, because the running version has exited. If it is happening every two days, that means there is a problem causing the monitor to die.

You don't say which version of OnlineDiags you have installed. There was a bug in very old versions which caused lpmc_em to die periodically due to a file descriptor leak. This was fixed in the A.30.00 (HWE0203) release; if you have a version older than that, you should be looking to upgrade anyway.

If that's not the answer, let us know what version of OnlineDiags you are running.

Andrew
