Has anyone been able to get Java working with Mozilla 1.4? Mozilla works fine (i.e. Navigator and Messenger), but I can't seem to get Java working. I downloaded the last-supported JRE depot for HP-UX 10.20 and ran "sh /opt/java/plugin/package", but it installs the libraries under $HOME/.netscape. I moved the contents of .netscape into .mozilla, but when I test it on one of our internal webpages, it can't find the mime type "x-java-vm" I added this mime type to the .mozilla/pluginreg.dat, but it obviously wasn't enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Danny

Danny,

There comes a point in every software lifecycle where you have to say, We can't get there from here.

HP-UX 10.20 no longer has support, and nobody is going to great effort to port the java plugin tools to that environment.

You might find some source code out there that you can compile and get this functionality.

If getting mozilla to work right on this machine is a priorty, then its time for a new OS. If the hardware can't handle it, then its time to go to management with a capital request.

You can't run anything, even a computer system forever. Every once in a while you need a new one, or at least a new used one.

HP's workstations are extremely affordable. You can put together a nice A class server for around $10,000 new. You can probably do much better than that in the refurb market.

If you succeed in getting this stuff to work, you might find it only makes your system unstable.

That said, you can poke around http://www.hp.com/go/java

Take a look at the archive releases and see if you can find one for 10.20.

If not, open a software call. It the plugin was ever ported to 10.20 someone might be able to dig one up for you.

These options might cost you some money though, and that would be better spent on a hardware/software upgrade.

SEP
Hi Steven,

I completely agree.
This is not a critical need, but rather an inquiry if anyone has had any luck with this configuration.

Danny
