While I concur with the previous responses, I must point out some obvious possibilities.
1. Was the tape in the remote drive? Or, did it pop out as you turned away?
2. Was the tape compatible to the drive? For example, using a DDS3 tape in a DDS2 or lower drive just doesn't work.
3. Was the "right protect" tab in use?
4. Did you try different tapes? Have you tried the rejected tape in a different drive? I recently opened a new tape, only to discover it was bad.
5. Does the remote drive work correctly when used locally?

Good luck...

Agusto:

fbackup required a second tape to continue. The manner in which SAM handles fbackup does not allow multiple tapes. You could split your backups into multiple graphs and launch them via SAM that way.

If you create your own backup scripts you can do non-interactive fbackups, and still still handle multiple tape mounts. See document #A4574368 describing the "chgvol" procedure for fbackup to accomplish this.

...JRF...

Hi,

Have you set up root equivalence between the server where you are running SAM and 'mem01'?

You need to be able to 'rlogin mem01' without having to supply a password.

If you can do that then possibly it's a problem with the tap drive itself.

Regards,
John

Augusto,

Looks like the client isn't allowed to do a remote command, on mem01 add "client root" to the .rhosts of the root user and try it again.

Greetz, Danny

PS. James, If the tape would have been full there would have been a "Normal EOT" message!

Hi,

If the rlogin works, remote tape drive will works.

You have to check the following.
1. Have you proper entry of both the system in .rhosts
2. Have you proper entry of both the system in /etc/hosts
3. Through SAM - Networking and Comm.
System Access - Remote login
Through Action set all parameters according to your requirments.e.g User Access allowed , rlogin user passwd etc etc.
4.Check graph file too.

Thanks
