I have a new server (A-class, running 11i) that I'm having a problem w/ FTP. When I attempt to ftp from the server to my winblows machine it will only transfer 32 MB from the file and then will quit. However, it the server says the transfer was successful. I've checked the inetd.conf file and everything looks OK. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

I'd say it's more likely a problem with the windows machine than UX. Are you maybe using a shareware server on windows that limits txfr's to 32MB until you pay? Do you have enough room on your windows disk to txfr more than 32M?

HTH.

Use binary transfer?

What about from Winblows to A-class? OK?

Anything in between? Switch, router?

# traceroute winblows

I don't think it's a problem w/ the winblows machine or any the switch in between. I can do a transfer from another server to the winblows machine w/o any problem.

Okay, have you tried txfr'ing the same file from UX to another machine? Does that work?

Did you check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log to see if there were any errors during the txfr (ie from the kernel)?

As Michael mentioned, it could also be a bad switch. If your other machines are not on the same network as the UX machine they won't take the same route to the windows machine and hence may work fine.

Actually I was thinking about the NIC auto sense setting. Many Forum users hate auto sense and advocate 100FD or 100HD hard coded into the server, the switch and the PC.

# lanscan (* obtain NMID *)
# lanadmin -x NMID
# lanamdin -x 4, for example

# lanadmin -X 100FD 4 (* reset *)

It's not the lan settings on the server. They are already hard coded @ 100FD. However, I tried doing the transfer between servers on different network segments and everything worked fine. So I think it's a problem between the Unix and Winblows networks. I'll get our network people on it. Thanx for your help, I'll assign points shortly.
There is nothing in hpux that sets such limits. If its not the network/switch/infrastructure, then its a configuration problem on the Windows server.

Your tests will show a transfer to the A class box work just fine.

SEP
